I got to meet Les Campbell when I joined the Pioneer Valley Photographic Association in the 1990s. Though I heard about Les and his longtime photographic legend, becoming part of his photo club and meeting weekly at his Sky Meadow studio showcased his passion for sharing and teaching his skill in photography. He pioneered many techniques in shooting and presenting photographic art. His multi slide projection set to music was adopted as a mainstay for professional photographers to display their artwork. He was always available to mentor anyone who asked.
I have heard it said many times that Les can teach you anything about photography except how to make money. Being a professional photographer for 25 years, often it becomes the norm to look at photography as just a job with the passion fading away. Les was an inspiration for me to look at creating photos as an expression of art and not a means to an end, to observe and capture nature in its splendor and share it for others to enjoy.
